I honestly have not read much Colin Kapp to date. He has a decent amount of Sci-Fi works published and many of the covers I gravitate too. I think I will start diving into his work with Ion War at some point unless anyone else has any better suggestions. Just let me know, cheers. For now, enjoy the art!

planetary preserver - original poem
planetary preserver
I wish to become
a planetary preserver
a savior to the stars
the one who makes
America's heart melt
by the slime of creation
and lessons of arduous time
attached to the lecture notes
of a great, esteemed xenobiologist
his quavering handwriting reads
"A plan is only mental
never sure of it's course
but intuition -
it's something else
something oddly variant entirely
a lifeless endless stream
with gushing currents
and no commentary or guide
who can see past the brush
carrying a large machete
wafting and paddling
in endless circles
of God's watery creation
on our planet yes
but within other species
on distant cores and crusts
not like our own"
damn.
his words are unravelling
helping me fall into a pit of thieves
only to arise with a golden crown
rubies gems and bars and coins
he helped me find the reason
and those hadrosaur corpses
were on the other side of the globe
like all the other pioneers
and current greats in the field
but I had a hunch
an oh so clever hunch
that their numerical coordinates
we're backwards
opposite
all out of whack
I found my own mountain
and boy did I climb
It was glorious I tell you
even in snowy conditions
and at the top
the very goddamn alpine tip
I found the dinosaur bones
sitting on a silver platter
my own sliver of truth
my own reason
for having the privilege
to start each day
fresh and anew

crystal thief - original poem
crystal thief
shifting in my cane chair
retiring to the oversized
cushioned couch
I see your tall black shadow
silently poking out the enclave
leading to the kitchen
tucked behind the other room
so I keep a desk lamp
right next to my right hand
just in case
you choose to sit on my chest
and knock my wind all out
with a ghoulish blade at my neck
trying to steal my copper runes
and tumbled Apache tears
im not afraid to stab back this time
my blade is all prepared
spinning slowly on the nightstand

Name That Author #6
One of the most goddamn depressing authors I have ever read to date. Even more so than Dostoevsky. I have to be careful with their works...sometimes they can really put me in an existential whirlwind.
Hint: Philosophy

mutations [genetic mastery] - original poem
why not take a drive with me
stop by my house
see my basement DIY laboratory
no worries, the city heath officials wrote it off
I have something to show you
it might tickle the fringes
of your astute creative fantasies
and soothe your deoxygenated cells
we'll start by perusing
my amino acid modification lab
and my species collection on the wall
a database of failed experiments
and cryovials of those that withstood our tests
pick a mutation of interest
and we'll go from there
we have several bright field scopes
and colorimetric assays available
any chemical to fit your needs
just tell me what she looks like
tell me what mutations sound grand
I'll run a genetic algorithm through my software
we'll see if there's any compatibility
and in only one day
we can take care of any genetic deformities
personality oddities
and behavioral abnormalities
you might want gone
we just have to make sure
the subject stays under physiological conditions
and that the liquid anesthesia will take
if so we have dour hours to augment at will
we can craft a scientific love story
so sweet and daring
we will leave our peers crying
and jealous
over our suave
predatory nature
within the domain
of genetic mastery

smug smoggers - original poem
smug smoggers
why are us humans
such smug smoggers
why must we fill the air
with our impotencies
with our exultations
of diesel fuel
and toxic liquids and gases
our efforts of survival
seem to our block
the shine of the distant stars
that precipitate our dreams
our hopes, our futures
and plans for distant impacts
on foreign shimmery moons
we must be careful
not to disturb the equilibrium
between hopeful wishing
and the deeds of an honest
humanly existence
stuck to the rocks and oceans
that decorate the mountainsides
they serve us only slightly
at elevating us closer to these
cosmic precipitates
of the most regal emanations of man
its time for us to adorn
the pseudonym of smug smoggers
who snigger and pout
when things don't work out their way
the manse controllers
of universal expanse
may notice we are missing our lessons
and turning our homework in late
every day past the due date
we can see another span
of pure white stars
flicker and fade
until eventually a dense umbra
of darkness and evil
will envelop our auras
and cloud our little human minds
you may look towards the sun
for guidance and wisdom
but be sure not to stare
you may drink from the fountain
of celestial drippings of the moon
but be sure to not get drown and drenched
our else the north star
might exist no longer
and our cardinal compasses
will spin out of control
and burn a hole in every denim pocket
or dress pant snare
we must act quickly
before the heavenly gasses
volatize away
and we are only left with sulfur fumes
and itchy burning
crimson clouds of hell

Name That Author #5
Let's see who can get this one. Dude was super secretive and wrote many pamphlets namely on occultism and ancient alchemy. I have many of their books in my home collection.
