Welcome to Last Pages of Humanity Bibliophile Blog!

Hello!

My name is Colvet and I am a doctor, poet, author, visual artist, avid reader/book collector, and general over-thinker.  I wanted to take this time to introduce myself and explain what this Blogspot is all about.

While I used to have a website for my visual art creations (www.colvet.net), I never got much traction or sales, which is alright for an amateur starting out.  I posted art, poems, prints, canvasses, shirts, and more that I created on there starting in 2018, with little thought of the centralized theme. I also used to have an Instagram account (@colvet.net) that I started around 2019 with all of my art, but once again, I failed to gain more followers past 500 due to the insane hashtag and algorithm requirements.  Advertising is hard - there is a reason why people go to school for it!  I always liked the ideology of "build it and they will come" (Field of Dreams reference?), but realized that reality sometimes requires more than that.  Make cool shit and simply see what happens.  Problem is the sea of the internet is so large these days that sometimes you cool shit can get lost or suffocate/die.

While I never had any intentions of fame or delusions of grandeur with my previous website/Instagram, I could tell that the engagement I was getting was not ideal.  I am not trying to become famous or rich from writing, but I would like to find others who can share in my passions.  I don't think I have found "my people" quite yet. I am too old and poor to go back to school for an MFA to find said people, so this Blog will be my attempt at doing it - for free! I realized that my work was simply not making it to the eyes of the people who might find interest or beauty in it.  I had this realization towards the end of 2020.  Since then I have focused a lot of time getting better at my craft as well as studying the marketing/advertising side of art a bit more.

Instead of quitting or giving up with my creative expressions, I started to keep more of them to myself from 2021 to present.  I have thought long and hard about why my previous attempts at finding other freaks who like horror, sci-fi, poetry and its special combination thereof.  I have come to the conclusion that the issue lies in how I was packaging/selling my creations.  I would just kind of create and post so to speak, never thinking about the end use or functionality - only that it was cool that I made it.  I never thought about "how would others perceive this, "who would want to buy this, "who wants this on their wall", and all that.

The main thing limiting me in the past was that I was mostly focusing on large posters, art prints, and canvasses.  Problem with that is young professions (my target audience) do not always want to buy things like that if they move regularly (i.e. college), have limited wall space, and also have difficulties keeping nice things due to working so much.  I now see that I may have been a bit too adventurous when I hit the ground running as a bold creative.  I am now finished my my graduate work and have a stable job/income so with that life change, I am starting to take the posting and advertising of my work more professionally so hopefully I can meet other content creators like myself and grow as an artist.

So with that being said (sorry for the rant), I am starting this new Blogspot with the intention of sharing my artwork and poetry primarily.  While I do paint on canvas, make T-shirts with my art, and create prints/stickers - this will not be the focus on my Blog.  If you do want to support me as a creator and buy some of my works, you can do that on my website www.colvet.net (under repairs currently). Instead, this page will focus more on the bibliophile-side to my creations.  Therefore, one can expect to see the following types of content on this page:

- Original poetry, short stories, and novel excerpts - As an author, I am constantly writing new short stories, poems, and novels.  I will use this platform to share these before their physical release.

Bio-Organic Surrealism Zine Posts - my DIY poetry zine that comes out every March (03), June (06), September (09), and December (12).    Email lastpagesofhumanity@gmail.com for a copy or to be featured.

Book Reviews - clippings from book reviews I post to my Goodreads account (@Colvet) as well as in-depth book reviews for titles that really strike a chord with me. I will also do LibraryThing (@Colvet) updates showing my growing collection.

- Book Hauls/Photos - I like to videotape the hauls of books that I buy and collect over time to put on YouTube (@lastpagesofhumanity).  I intend to post some here as well as to the new Lastpagesofhumanity Instagram account (in progress).  These photos will contains vintage horror, sci-fi, fantasy, occult/spirituality, philosophy, poetry, and reference books/cover arts for us to all appreciate as bibliophiles.

Book-related Art, Covers, Posters, Content - Anything that might be dripping in nostalgia and pairs with the genres of books I love to write and collect.  I plan to include images from the internet or those made by other users as well.

- Bookish Events - Any major sales, zine fests, book signings, conventions, etc. that may be of interest will get posted here.

Thank you for reading.  Nice to meet you all.  I am super excited to get this Blog off the ground and start to meet some lovely writers, artists, and freaks from all over the globe.  Get in touch if interested!
