Ben Bova Covers #1

Ben Bova has a handful of hard SF texts that are quite legendary.  The scientific/mathematical depth of the ideas explored in his works in unparalleled by a lot of other writers in the field.  Not only does he write hard SF, but he has a bunch of epic series to his name as well.  Not to mention, some dope covers!

diablo red - original poem

diablo red

safeguard
the archaic artifacts
and sacred objects
of our parent's
distant offspring

let the bloody heritages
fall free from their
accumulated flasks
and metallo-matrixed
coated metal guards

feel the flows
of their glowing torments
and their aural piths
accumulated
on foreign housewares
and ancient jars

we offer these objects
for the shadows of the night
the dead kings
defeated warriors
gunned-down militia
fighting the cyclops
and flying sirens
of ancient times

but fear must be secular
and intriguingly molecular
it seems as if
these chemical cages
floating in the ether
can trap the calls
from violent men
with faces of Diablo red

they have phone recordings
of mischievous children
intelligently interacting
and playing with a foggy
out of focused
spinning world
of shadows and chaos

ghost tower - original poem

ghost tower

it's a ghost tower
in the center of the city
paranormal
Taiwanese shrines
shining through the
elm green ferns
and subtle vegetables
growing and hugging
the earth sunken
with spiritual owings
follow me
on his tuk tuk
through the dirty
shallow Bangkok streets
ascending
through a fever dream
spooked
by our drivers
crazed
laughable stride
following us
in the alleyway
community
why's he coming at us?
why's he moving like that?
I'm awfully frightened
Scooby-Doo zoinked
but I'm ready to break in?
and escape from
your zombie dance moves
I'm going all the way to the top
despite your warns
I'm hopping on your tuk tuk
I'm jumping the fence
lets go escape this mess
and climb the ghost tower
in the center of town
totally spooked

east ny - original poem

east ny

after videogames
at the chinatown fair
we get thick nissin
ramen noodle soup
flowered with Uzumaki swirls
decadently umami
until a go-shadow
lights my date's hair on fire
with a roman candle trick
as the ambulance lights fade
I ask -
why cant I enjoy
the simplest of things
the smallest of social circles
companied alone
in east NY
