dreamland theatre - original poem

dreamland theatre

welcome to dreamland
where the marquis lights
are always on

where the signs
of upcoming showings
orient themselves

and align their movements
with the dynamics
of human creativity

where all their fears
insecurities
aesthetic pleasantries
are thrown at the screen
like a Pollock paint pail

I've brought my trusty
little black handgun to protect me
from your posessions

the ticket booth is empty
but there is a little pink colored
stamped cardboard square
left only for me
and all the halls are unlocked

you tell me justice
retribution
and death
with be on the screen

15 years in the making
supposedly
too bad the popcorn machine
is out of service

i won't let your nitrite film roll
scare me senseless

i won't let your moans
or bloody drips
spook me out of the theatre

even though
I'm drunk in darkness
crippled by fear

I'll still have the courage to check
all the lines of seats
and protect
everything I built
on this humanly existence

5 shots ring out
but your body doesn't drop
it just dissolves into the woodwork
into the marble stairwells
into the corded light walkways

I'm on the theatre screen
forever and always

scary movies
on the silver screen

horror sci fi
supernatural

aliens
maniacs
tranatulas
braniacs
and everything in between
at the horrorthon

meet us outside
the right vertical
dreamland lights

Friday the 13th - original poem

Friday the 13th

I'm stoked
for the wild berry harvest
this Friday, the 13th
I'll drive straight to your house
right from the lab
need anything from the store?
I'll have my crystals to clean
and a bag of dead flowers and herbs
we'll pray for lunar showers
and moonlight light shows
flying like abandoned jet packs
once the harvest is complete
let's wait and see
what our consciousness
collectively
can conjure up
on this sacred evening
of familiar friends
and previous hosts
now ghosts

Rick Hautala Covers #1

Some of my favorite Zebra horror paperback covers come from Rick Hautala. I think I currently have all or most of these in my own vintage paperback collection!  I especially like the covers for the "Moon" series that I have shown at the end of the list herein.  Cheers!

bug collection - original poem

bug collection

does my bug collection scare you?
why do you find them so gruesome?
look into their prehistoric eyes
see the Mesozoic parties
held through their exoskeletal
back legs and pads
why are you afraid to look
at the diversity of life
and the history of death
through my formaldehyde
bottled protected collections
of insect brains and antennas
floating in viscous clouded baths
hearts harvested and washed
in phosphate buffer streams
we must preserve their vessels
in the exact condition we found them
finders keepers
but losers never weep
they simply share
their secrets for free
to students unworthy
of illuminating treaties
and shine their jars
their slides
their specimens
to people afraid to look
into praying mantis eyes
and stroke the outline
of crustacean bugs
dancing on chloroform
corroded vials
pill packs
and sealed cells
organized first by function
second by size
housed on the warped walls
share the galleria
with my lock-guarded
bug collection
in the adjacent room

zengaya - original poem

zengaya

zengaya
lob it off
anywhere the monkey
left you with with red bites
must be decapitated
left hand
right shoulder
nick in your forehead
your body finally scattered perfectly

Pocatello pink sands - original poem

Pocatello pink sands

The Pocatello pink sands
are stenching up my room
engraining my heart
with socket wrenches
and eyes affixed on shoes

shake the pink sand
all around the floor
release the fear
and finally be fearful no more

a boyhood's worth of fear
doesn't simply disappear
it lingers on street corners
and rattles around aimlessly
in the crucial hours
of a night's long hauled sleep

so wash your skin
with Poctaello pink sands
and let the micron-sized abrasions
leave you pure and primed
for surgery on the rough parts
only smoothness left over

armageddon - original poem

armageddon

Let's lock ourselves
in the cargo bay
does everyone have
their independent
life support systems?

crystal castles
tumbling through blue
and green gas rings
one happened to hit
our primary thrusters

mayday mayday
I repeat
it's going down
our only hope
is an emergency landing

relying solely
on our back ups
electromagnetic debris shields up
we'll smash right through
the lunar icicles
and descend into strange lands

we're off their grids now
like cyborgs or something
ask God if he doesn't mind
taking care of our buddies

until we can one day
play hopscotch with them again
in the playgrounds of space
shimmery and nefariously pure

scrying lathe - original poem

scrying lathe

stare into the scrying lathe
left in ages settled beneath dust
you disappear in a dusty willow
a browed burst of darkness
aging all our fleshy grooves

turning into smirking werewolves
and men with melting faces
frowning faces with blacked out eyes
beards stretching their hairs to the ground
dripping their gunk on the dark sidewalk

and spiral marble staircase incline
a maniacal grin and dangling eyes
ripping back and forth like pendulums
of a dirty boxing glove
in the back of a catatonically depressed clown

all flesh blanching to white
with eyeballs rolling like quarters in a pinball machine
the darkness clacks on the mirror
forming tiny micro fissures
until everything turns to blackness
and demons rip the world in the half

with their blood dripped
fluorescent yellow clam claws
staring into the core of the earth
with glowing eyes on fire
sleeping in a tent with the devil
doing handsigns
in the woods at night

three o' clock [surprise] - original poem

three o'clock [surprise]

you were innocent
reassuring oneself
but a simple stab
with a shiny pocket knife
denotes your fate
marks your murderous name
not in self-defense

the universe has cameras
pretty much everywhere
these days
it wasn't self defense
the victim had no weapon
and you stole his wallet
but he was broke
only had two bucks
for a bottle of booze

you're a murderer, Charlie
who spits in green-thumbing
priest faces
you are he
who comes to the door
to spread the word of God
with no cognition
of his lively lessons

you have no choice in the matter
you already gave that up
already tied the rope
already punched your timecard
and turned the other cheek to abuse
you cursed God's name in vain
you drank the devil's urine
you lived the left-hand path
so now you suffer in death

be mindful
his power is absolute black
those who forsake
and mock the name of God
the white light of goodness
for the black footsteps of evil
are called sinners

and sinners go to hell
the dark one is waiting
and he doesn't like to pause
tick tock
tick tock
clock strikes
three o' clock
he's got you now
surprise!

derisive decision - original poem

derisive decision

a derisive decision
written in messy cursive
crumpled in paper bits
hidden in the folds
of a scarlet scarf
hung widdifully
on the decrepit
thinning branches
of his birthday tree
seeded on the day
of his spawning
now dying in flames

an inflammable camisole
on his lifeless body
floating away into particles
his body may be melted
but his frozen tears
will always stay crossed
and his name
will always be censored
by those in control
those who type the paragraphs
of our school-led texts

coffee drinker - original poem

coffee drinker

coffee drinker
underachiever
staying in bed
long past noon
on the weekends

head out to the lighthouse
to meet Millie
she needs help
with preserving
the coastal
great lake views

the rats and bugs
throw the best parties
after sundown
with cherry apple
moonshine

look out
for the green beam
lightning machine
buoying up and down
flash your flashlight twice
then circle it three times longer
as wide as you can

we'll send you a yellow raft
come along ashore
and watch the Atari show
projected over
the low hanging
strong smelling
Michigan trees
in the paltry sky

mr. parker - original poem

mr. parker

reversing black
mold-spored putrefaction
with a stark laser beam
pointed bull's eye center
of a harden black sphere
taken hostage
by the kinights
of dark fungal fortitudes

let thy waveforms pulse
and push out all the mold milk
and white claws of citrus goo
turn the fruit of eternity
into a slime mold of death
start it back over again
with the power of sight
and the bombardment of rays
from my decommissioned arm
of the cycloped cyclotron

quite a marvelous
magnificient
transformation
metaphorized
beneath your
thick rimmed eyes
isn't that right
mr. parker?

clown house at the carnival - original poem

clown house at the carnival

clown house lights
are lighting up
one by one
I can see them
past the metal beams
and swirling, beeping lights

carnival crowded games
and the bumper car
lobby line tube lights
and the zero gravity machine
I'm stuck to the walls
fixing my eyes
on the neon lights
illuminating one by one

which clowns will try
to touch my body
which ones will make me
honk their nose
and laugh at their own shitty
alcohol washed jokes
i refuse to wipe the tears
through your streaking
paint designed
makeup face

the show must go on
and I can't wait
you're going to get fired tonight
the job markets in the dumps
interviewers will notice
your shaking hands in the morning
and your twitching muscles

you wasted
comedic punch line
erased
with pink gum

pineapple lillies - original poem

pineapple lilies

wait look -
those are docile
pineapple lilies
napping in the golden noon
on the coastline of Alohan sands
snoring on the bedrock
atop little lily pads
nearly ripened fruits
beginning to bud and sprout

be cautious
lest our motions not disturb them
we mustn't wake them
from their daydreamy séance
in this Egyptian silica ball pit
let's let the kiddos rest a bit

we'll break at the next leg of our hike
by the pointed purple pillars
where Pythagoras's status
astutely watches out
over the bay of sardonic tears
dropped from the lacrimal pits
in Heaven's gated fence
where the community watch
is always on alert
